February fee review — here’s what’s changed

Wise

This blog post is to update our customers about changes in price and is not a marketing communication.

Our mission is to lower the cost of moving money across borders. And since we started 13 years ago, we’ve made good progress, particularly over the past year.

At the beginning of 2024 our average fee was 0.67% and now, one year later, it’s now 0.59% globally — that’s our lowest average fee in 3 years.

Last year, 3 million people and businesses used Wise to send money, spend abroad, and get paid across 160 countries — those same people saved £1.5bn by choosing Wise instead of a traditional bank.

We do this by looking for ways to optimise our costs while we develop our infrastructure, improving connections to payment systems, and encouraging more people and businesses to use Wise.

The fee for your transfer is based on:

  • the currency you're sending from,
  • the currency the recipient receives, and
  • how you're funding the transfer.

We share an update like this every time we make changes to our pricing because we’re committed to two things; transparency, and dropping our fees wherever we can.

The rest of this post outlines the currencies and payment methods that have changed, and why.

Use our fee calculator to see if your route was impacted by this change and how much your next transfer will cost.

See Terms of Use or visit Wise Fees & Pricing for the most up-to-date information.

Here’s what’s changed:

It’s cheaper to fund transfers from US dollars via direct debit (ACH)

We invested in more advanced controls when you pay for transfers using ACH. This means we're better at spotting and preventing financial crime, which saves us money. We're able to pass these savings back to you and drop the fees we charge for using ACH.

For example, sending 100 USD to AUD via ACH used to cost 1.23 USD + 0.53%. This now costs 1.23 USD + 0.45%. That’s nearly 13% cheaper than before.

Most transfers to Chinese yuan will now cost less

We’ve lowered our fees for sending money to CNY if your recipient has a Wise account, or an account with Bank of Shanghai, Alipay, or WeChatPay*. However, if they receive the money into their UnionPay account, it will now cost more.

For example, sending 2000 EUR to a CNY Bank of Shanghai account used to cost 9.25 EUR + 1.04% and will now cost 9.25 EUR + 0.87%. That’s 12% cheaper than before.

It’ll also be cheaper to add Chinese yuan to your Wise account.

Check how much your next transfer will cost

* Depending on how much you send, smaller transfers may now be more expensive. This is because the variable fee for using this method is decreasing, but the fixed fee is increasing.

Funding transfers from Chinese yuan with Alipay will now cost less

Funding a transfer from CNY to another currency with Alipay will now cost less than before.

Send 500 CNY to GBP used to cost you 29.10 CNY + 1.98%. This will now cost 19.82 CNY + 1.98%. That’s 27% cheaper than before.

It’ll be cheaper to send money to Philippine pesos

We’ve made some cost efficiencies by integrating directly with Instapay — the real-time instant payment system in the Philippines. We’ve passed these savings back to you with lower fees (and faster transfers).

For example, sending 2,000 GBP to PHP via bank transfer used to cost 0.92 GBP + 0.61%. This now costs 0.60 GBP + 0.61%.

Transfer to Bangladeshi taka for less

Alongside our partner bank in Bangladesh, we’ve also found ways to reduce our costs — and we’ll pass the savings back to you with lower fees.

As an example, sending 1000 GBP to BDT used to cost 3.07 GBP + 7.13%. It’ll now cost 1.79 EUR + 0.72%. That’s nearly 13% cheaper than before.

Transferring to and from Hungarian forints is cheaper

We’ve lowered the fees for sending money to and from HUF.

Sending 1000 EUR to HUF used to cost 0.86 EUR + 0.89%, and will now cost 0.86 EUR + 0.64%. That's 29% cheaper than before.

It’s cheaper to send money from Indian rupees

The exchange rate for converting from some currencies, like INR, can fluctuate more than others. We’re now better at managing these fluctuations without passing the costs back to you. Which means we can reduce our fees when you send money from INR.

For example, sending 20,000 INR to GBP via bank transfer used to cost 643.68 INR + 1.37%. This now costs 604.91 INR + 1.17%.

Funding transfers from Indonesian rupiah via bank transfer will now cost less

Next time you use a bank transfer to pay for a transfer from IDR to another currency — you’ll pay less.

For example, sending 2,000,000 IDR to GBP via bank transfer used to cost 41,793 IDR + 0.58%. This now costs 28, 475 CNY + 0.58%. That’s over 28% cheaper than before.

Transfers from Japanese yen will now cost more

Supporting JPY transfers recently became costlier for Wise. Unfortunately, this means we have to increase the fees so they more accurately reflect how much it really costs. We’re looking into ways to reduce these servicing costs, and return the savings back to you as soon as possible.

For example, sending 20,000 JPY to GBP used to cost 188 JPY + 0.61%. This now costs 188 JPY + 0.69%.

Sending Canadian dollars via direct debit is now more expensive

We’ve had to increase our fees when you pay for CAD transfers via direct debit. This is to reflect the increased costs of offering this payment method.

This also applies when using direct debit to add Canadian dollars to your Wise account.

Sending to Nepalese rupee is now more expensive

If you pay for a transfer to NPR using the money in your Wise account, or via bank transfer — this will now cost you more.

For example, sending 1,000 GBP to NPR used to cost 1.35 GBP + 0.8%, and will now cost 1.35 GBP + 1.03%.

Fees are changing for receiving International SWIFT payments into your Wise account

International Swift payments are a way for people to send you bank transfers from almost anywhere in the world — even if that country doesn’t use that currency.

Say, you live in the US and your friend in Japan wants to send you 10,000 Japanese yen. They can send the money from their bank account using the Swift network, and once the payment arrives in your Wise account we deposit it into your JPY balance.

Receiving Canadian dollars via SWIFT will now be cheaper

Our costs for providing this service are lower than we thought they’d be. So we’re now able to reduce the fees you pay for doing this.

The fee for receiving CAD via SWIFT will now be 6.16 CAD instead of 10 CAD. That’s 48% cheaper than before.

However, receiving most other currencies via SWIFT will now carry a fee

Last year, we launched the ability to receive 19 new currencies into your Wise account via SWIFT payments.

At the time, we didn’t charge a fee for this. However, since the Swift network uses multiple intermediary banks — each with their own fees — there are lots of costs to manage. We try to keep these costs as low as possible.

The fees we’re introducing will now accurately reflect the cost of using the Swift network to receive international payments.

When do price changes apply to me?

We’ll always let you know if and when we change our fees. The date for these changes depends on where you live, how you fund transfers, and whether the fee is decreasing or increasing.
