You can adjust your discoverability settings to make it easier for people to send you money on Wise. When you're discoverable, others can find you by your Wisetag, email, or phone number.
How do I search for someone with Wisetag, email or phone number?
You can search for someone in two ways:
From the home screen—tap Send and enter their details.
From the Recipients tab—tap Add a recipient, then choose Search on Wise and enter their Wisetag, email, or phone number.
Make sure you enter the full email or phone number, including the country code, or you won’t be able to find them.
Why should I make my phone number or email discoverable?
If you choose to be discoverable, other Wise customers can send you money just by entering your phone number or email—no need to share your bank details.
Faster and often cheaper—transfers to an email or phone number are usually instant and may have lower fees, depending on the route.
Automatic balance setup—money sent to you will go into your balance in the same currency. If someone sends you USD, it will go into your USD balance. If you don’t have one, we’ll create it automatically.
For customers in the EEA or UK: You need to opt in to receive money via phone number or email, if you haven't done so already. You can check if you're discoverable and change this in your Privacy settings.
For customers outside the EEA and UK: You’re discoverable via phone number or email by default, but you can opt out anytime in your Privacy settings.
All customers are default discoverable by Wisetag. You can update this in your Privacy settings.
How do contact syncing and discoverability work together?
If a Wise customer syncs their contacts, they won’t see you in their recipient list unless you have phone number discoverability turned on.
Turned on? You’ll be listed as a recipient in their Wise account. If they choose to add you.
Turned off? You won’t appear in their contact list.
You can disable contact syncing in Privacy and security in the Wise app. This stops Wise from checking your phonebook for new Wise contacts.
We never store your phonebook data for contacts who aren’t on Wise. We only sync periodically (with your permission) to check for new contacts who are on Wise.
Why should I sync my contacts on Wise?
Syncing makes sending money faster. If your contacts are also Wise customers and have discoverability turned on, they’ll be added to your recipient list automatically.
If they sync their contacts, you’ll be added to their recipient list—but only if you have discoverability enabled.
How do I sync contacts?
Your contacts will only be synced if you agree and enable syncing in the Wise app. You can follow the steps here.
What info can others see about my account?
If someone finds you as a result of a successful Wisetag, email or phone search we’ll show them your full name and profile picture.
They won’t be able to see your account details or any other personal information.
What if I do not want to be discoverable by Wisetag, email or phone number?
If you don’t want others to find you by Wisetag, email, or phone number, you can turn off each option separately in your Privacy settings on the app or web.
For example, if you only want to be found by your Wisetag (and not your phone number or email), go to Settings > Security and Privacy > Find me by.
