How do I close my Wise Business account?

You can close your Wise Business account at any time. You must be the Owner of the account to close it. If you need to change the account owner, learn how to change team member roles.

When you close your business account, you can choose to either close only the business account or close both your business and personal accounts.

Before you close your account

To make sure you can close your account smoothly, you'll need to:

  • Withdraw all money from your account

    1. Go to Home and select a currency that has money in it

    2. Select Send

    3. Make sure you send the full amount and choose a bank account outside of Wise

    4. Repeat for all currencies you have money in

If you have a very small amount left (like 0.50 USD or equivalent) that you can't send out, please contact us, and we can help clear it for you.

Tip: If you're keeping your personal account, you can send the money from your business account to your personal account.

  • Download any statements or transfer receipts you need for your records Once your account is closed, you'll permanently lose access to it. You won't be able to see your transfer history or download statements for your accountant. Please download everything you need before you close the account.

  • Complete or cancel all pending transactions This includes recent card payments, which can be 'pending' for up to 7 days after you made the purchase. If you get an error when trying to close your account, this is the most common reason.

  • Disconnect any connected accounting software, like Xero or QuickBooks

  • Wait for any pending fees (like from your last card use) to be taken

What if my business is in liquidation or insolvency?

If your business is entering liquidation or insolvency, share our email legalrequests@wise.com with your liquidator or the insolvency administrator.

Your appointed liquidator or insolvency administrator will need to give us instructions on where to send any remaining funds. Our team will then act on their instructions to close the account.
