As a financial institution, Wise needs to verify where your business operates to comply with regulations and keep everyone's money safe.
For all businesses, we collect two addresses:
- Registered address - Where your business is officially registered and the one listed on your official business registration document (for example, on your Companies House registration).
- Trading address - Where you actually run your business day-to-day (your office, home, shop, etc.) These may be the same address, but it's also perfectly acceptable for them to be different.
What can't my trading address be?
Your trading address must be a physical location. It can't be:
- A PO Box
- A mail forwarding or receiving service
- A virtual office
- A solicitor's or attorney's office
- A business registration agency
How do I add or update my business address?
You can usually update your business address in your Wise account. Make sure you’re currently viewing your business account.
On the website:
- Select your business name in the top right corner.
- Select Business details.
- Under Trading addresses, select Edit.
- Enter your physical trading address and select Save.
On the app:
- Tap on your profile picture in the top-left corner.
- Select Business details.
- You can edit your addresses there.
Good to know: If your business is already verified, some details (like your registered address) may be locked for security. If you can't edit your address, please contact us with your new document ready, and we can help.
What documents do you accept for my trading address?
We need a high-quality photo or PDF of a document that clearly shows your business or business owner's name, full trading address, an issue date, and the sender's name or logo (like your bank or utility provider).
Document Requirements:
- Utility bills and bank statements must be less than 3 months old.
- Other documents (like tax bills, insurance policies, or licences) must be less than 12 months old.
- The document must be in PDF, JPEG, or PNG format.
Acceptable Documents:
| Document Type | Specific Rules |
|---|---|
| Utility bill | We accept bills for gas, electricity, broadband/internet, or a landline phone. We can't accept mobile phone bills. |
| Lease or rental agreement | Must be current and signed by both you and the landlord. |
| Bank or credit card statement | We accept statements from most traditional banks and neobanks (like Monzo, Revolut, or Starling). We can't accept statements from Mercury. |
| Business licence or registration document | Must be an official government-issued document. |
| Tax document | A tax return, tax filing, or official correspondence from a tax authority (like HMRC or the IRS). |
| Business insurance policy | We accept policies including (but not limited to): commercial, liability, business owner's, umbrella, or professional insurance. |
| Council tax bill | Must be an official council bill or notification. |
What if I work from home and don't have bills in my business name?
This is common, and we can accept personal documents in your name.
If you're a sole trader, a freelancer, or the sole owner/director of a registered company (like an LTD or LLC), we can accept one of the following documents in your personal name. The address on the document must match the trading address on your Wise account.
- Utility bill (gas, water, electric, landline, broadband)
- Council tax bill
- Bank statement
- Tenancy agreement
- An ID with your address
- HMRC notifications
Common Questions
What if my trading address is a co-working space? We can accept your signed rental agreement or a formal letter from the co-working space provider. It must be on their headed paper, dated within the last 3 months, and clearly show your business name and the co-working address.
Can my registered and trading address be in different countries? Yes, this is fine. We'll just need to verify your trading address with one of the documents listed above.
Can I change the country of my registered address? No, it's not possible to change the country your business is registered in. You would need to open a new Wise Business account for the business in the new country.
Are there special rules for the US or Canada? Yes. In the US and Canada, your personal residential address can't be the same as your business address.
What if I trade from a country where Wise Business isn't available? You must have a physical trading address in a country where we support Wise Business. We can't accept trading addresses from unsupported countries.
What are some common rejection reasons?
- The document is too old.
- The document has an SSN on it.
